The two shapes that matter
An evening bag has one job and almost nothing else: carry a phone, a card and a lipstick without ruining the line of the dress. These are the two shapes that do it.
A hard-case minaudière holds its shape whatever is inside it. That is the point — it reads structured and deliberate against a draped satin or chiffon dress, where a soft bag would slump. It is the more formal of the two and the right choice for a black-tie event or a wedding.
A velvet envelope clutch with a chain is the more practical one. The chain means you can wear it across the body and have both hands free, which matters more over a long evening than people expect — at a wedding you will be holding a drink, a phone and an order of service at some point.
The check nobody does
Measure your phone against the bag before you order. A beautiful clutch that does not close over a modern phone is a clutch you carry in your hand all night, and it is the single most common complaint about evening bags.
The dimensions are on each product page. If you carry a larger phone, the envelope style is the more accommodating of the two.
Colour
Both are champagne beige, which is deliberate. A neutral evening bag goes with every colour in our dress range — the greens, pinks, yellows and blacks alike — where a coloured bag has to be matched. If you are buying one evening bag, buy a neutral one.
