Who this edit is for

Weddings ask for more dresses than anyone expects. There is the ceremony, the reception, the rehearsal dinner, the hen, the morning after. There is the guest who needs one dress and the bridal party who need six of the same. This edit is built to cover all of it rather than a single moment.

For the bride

We are not a bridal house, and it would be misleading to pretend otherwise. But a small number of styles here are cut in white and ivory and do the job properly — a lace-strap mermaid with a court train, a halter-neck lace mermaid, an off-shoulder satin with an open back.

They suit a particular kind of wedding: a register office, an intimate ceremony, a second wedding, a destination wedding where a full gown is impractical, or a bride who wants a separate dress for the evening. If you are after a traditional cathedral gown, a specialist bridal boutique will serve you better and we would rather say so.

Colour, and the one rule

Guests avoid white, ivory and cream. That is the only fixed rule, and it matters more than any other convention still floating around.

Beyond it, this edit runs heaviest in black, then green, yellow, champagne beige and pink. Black at a wedding stopped being controversial some years ago, provided the fabric is occasion-led. Green — sage, emerald, olive — has become the most requested wedding colour in Britain, and it works for guests and bridesmaids alike, which is why it runs to ten styles here.

If you are a guest and you know the bridal party colours, step away from them. Being accidentally colour-matched to the bridesmaids is the most common wedding photograph regret there is.

Fabric by season

Chiffon for spring and summer, outdoors, marquees and anywhere warm. It moves in photographs and forgives heat. Eleven styles.

Satin for autumn, winter and evening receptions. It holds a cleaner line and reads richer in low light. Seventeen styles.

Lace and sequin for the formal end and the after-party respectively. Nine styles are embellished, nine are sequin.

Sizing across a whole party

Styles run UK 6 to UK 26 including the wider W fittings, and XS to XXXL in the letter sizes. Full measurements in centimetres are on the size guide.

Our dresses are true to size. Between two sizes, take the larger in satin and chiffon and your usual size in anything with stretch. For a mermaid cut, order to your hip measurement rather than your dress size — the single most common mistake on wedding wear. Where a style has a lace-up back, you have roughly a size of adjustment either way, which matters if someone in the party is pregnant or expects to change shape before the date.

Timing

Order three months out if you are dressing a bridal party, and three to four weeks out if you are a guest. Almost every group order needs one exchange, and the difference between a calm swap and a crisis is entirely when you started.
