The colour that took over British weddings

A green dress has become the most requested occasion colour in the UK, and there are practical reasons behind the trend. Green photographs beautifully against the two backdrops British events actually happen in — stone and greenery. It reads rich in low light without the severity of black. And it suits a wider range of skin tones than most people assume, because the range from sage to emerald covers both cool and warm undertones.

It is also the colour bridal parties keep landing on, which is why three of these styles are tagged for bridesmaids.

Which green

Sage is the soft, dusty one. The safest across a mixed group, the most flattering in daylight, and the reason it dominates summer weddings. Best in chiffon.

Emerald is the deep, saturated one. Formal, striking under artificial light, and the right choice for an evening event. Best in satin, where the fabric gives it depth.

Olive and forest sit between them and read more autumnal. Good with brown and champagne accessories rather than black.

What to wear it with

Green is one of the few colours where the metal matters. Gold and champagne accessories warm it and suit sage and olive. Silver cools it and works better with emerald. Black shoes with a sage dress reads heavy — nude, tan or champagne is the better pairing.

Sizing

These run XS to XL in letter sizes and UK 6 to 12 in the numeric ones, with full measurements in centimetres on the size guide. Our dresses are true to size.

Between two sizes, take the larger in satin and chiffon and your usual size in anything with stretch. For a mermaid cut, order to your hip measurement.
