Ruched or plain, and why it matters
These two get grouped together and they behave very differently.
A plain bodycon dress is a smooth stretch fabric cut close. It shows the line of the body exactly as it is, which is the point, and it is unforgiving about everything underneath it.
A ruched dress gathers the fabric into vertical folds through the waist and stomach. Those folds do two things: they add a layer of fabric where you least want to be seen through, and the gathering breaks up the surface so it does not read as one flat plane. Eighteen of these styles are ruched, and if you like the shape of a bodycon but not the scrutiny, ruched is the answer.
Practically, ruched is also more comfortable over a long evening. Gathered fabric gives when you sit down. A flat stretch panel does not.
What we carry
Twenty-five are floor-length, eight are mini, with midi in between. Twenty-eight are tagged for parties and twenty-eight for nights out — this is the going-out end of the shop.
Fourteen are backless or open-backed, ten are halter-neck, eight have cut-out detail and eight have a square neck. Seven have long sleeves, which is the winter answer.
Twenty are black. After that: green, white, blue, purple and pink in smaller numbers.
Sizing, honestly
This is the part of the shop where sizing matters most, because a fitted dress has nowhere to hide a bad fit. Styles run XS to XL in letter sizes, with a group in UK 6 to 26 — full measurements in centimetres on the size guide.
Order to your hip measurement, not your dress size. This is the single most common mistake on fitted dresses and the reason most of them come back. Your hip is the widest point a bodycon has to cross, and if it fits there it will fit everywhere.
Our dresses are true to size. In a stretch fabric, take your usual size — sizing up on bodycon makes it bag rather than skim, which looks worse than a close fit. In a bandage or structured fabric with little give, take the larger of two sizes.
What to wear underneath
Worth saying plainly because it decides how the dress looks. Seamless underwear, always — a bodycon shows every edge. For the backless and open-back styles, either a stick-on bra or one of the styles here with a built-in one. And if you are considering shapewear, buy the dress first and decide after: the ruched styles frequently make it unnecessary.
Delivery and returns
UK delivery is free on every order with no minimum spend, and takes around seven working days. Returns are free within 14 days with a prepaid label in the box, so if you are between two sizes, order both and send one back at no cost. On fitted dresses in particular, that is the sensible way to buy.
Where to look next
By length: maxi, midi, mini. For the same energy with more coverage, long sleeve dresses. For nights out, night out and party dresses.
